Arnstein Bue

Arnstein has participated in all previous KONG expeditions. Arnstein is 36 and lives in Trondheim, Norway's 3rd largest city and home of Champion's League contender Rosenborg. He has worked as senior sales consultant for ICL Norway but is now sales manager at Merkantildata. He's married to Heidi and they have two boys (7-Eleven!) Arnstein joined the league of DX-ers in 1978 and prefers DX-ing on SW and MW towards Latin America, and MW towards North America, Asia and the Pacific. Having moved to a new-built home, he hasn't yet had time to erect antennas to feed his JRC NRD-525G. DX is recorded with a portable Sony MiniDisc recorder. Best catches are North American stations 500-watt WAJR Morgantown WV 1440, KHEY El Paso TX 690, KDAL Duluth MN 610 and WRBD Fort Lauderdale FL 1470, plus the Latins WKCK Radio Cumbre, Orocovis PR 1470, Radio BB, Panama 1240 and ZYK246 Rádio Garibaldi, Garibaldi RS 1410.

Odd-Jørgen Sagdahl

Odd-Jørgen visits Kongsfjord for the first time this autumn. Living with his wife Lise and two daughters 5 and 6 years old in Hundhamaren outside Trondheim, Odd-Jørgen earns his living as Consultant/Project Manager in Public Transit Management. His job takes him around a lot, including regular visits to Montreal. Odd-Jørgen is 35 and began DX-ing in 1977. He rarely (if ever!) tunes shorter wavelengths than the MW spectrum. His favourite loggings are daytimer WADR Remsen NY 1480 (1997), WSAM Saginaw MI 1400 (1997) and 1000-watt WSYB Rutland VT 1380 (1999). His fine line of receivers consist of an AOR AR7030+, a Drake R7A and a Watkins-Johnson HF1000A. MiniDisc is used for recording. At home he uses an 80 m longwire directed at 160 degrees. When DX is low, he enjoys fishing and cooking.

Rolf Torvik

Rolf too is a veteran KONG participant. Rolf is 40, lives in the Trondheim suburb Vikhamar, is married to Ragnhild and they have two girls 2 and 9 years old. Rolf's employer is the Norwegian state oil company Statoil, where he works as a scientist at Statoil's Research and Development Department in Trondheim. Rolf started DX-ing in 1975, and uses an NRD525 and an NRD535D. At home he has two antennas; 150 m sloping NNW and 200 m directed N. At a resort on the island of Smøla (due WSW of Trondheim) he uses a 350 m beverage at WNW and 400 m at WSW. Most interesting DX are MW signals from Trans-Atlantic and Pacific. His favourite loggings are KBOW Butte MT 550, YVYO R Occidental, Santa Rita 1580 and HRRF R Cadena de Noticias, Tegucigalpa 1570

Bjarne Mjelde

Bjarne hosts the KONG expedition for the fourth time at his resort some 34 km from his home in Berlevag, located at 71N, 29E. Bjarne, aged 41, works as director for town planning and business development. The Significant Other is named Reidhild and they have a 10-year old son. Bjarne has been a DX-er since 1972, mainly focusing on MW with North America and Asia as his favourite DX targets. At his home in Berlevåg he uses two short beverages (150 m NNW and 200 m SW-NE) + a large-aperture loop for phasing purposes. Equipment consist of an AOR AR7030+ with xtal and mech IF-filters, a Kneisner + Doering KWZ 30 DSP receiver + Minidisc recorders. Best catches include a 300-watt relay station on 1233 kHz of JOVF Wakayama Hoso 1431 kHz, 5MU from Murray Bridge, South Australia with 5kW on 1125 kHz, and KJAM Madison SD 1390 kHz, listed with 500/62 watts. All heard from his home in Berlevåg.
